  • 200g (7 oz) chow mein noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 150g (5 oz) bean sprouts
  • 200g (7 oz) protein of your choice (chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu), thinly sliced or diced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

  1. Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large wok or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the julienned carrot, sliced bell pepper, shredded cabbage, and bean sprouts to the wok. Stir-fry for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Push the vegetables to the side of the wok and add the protein of your choice to the empty space. Cook until the protein is cooked through.
  5. Combine the cooked noodles with the vegetables and protein in the wok.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Pour the sauce over the noodles and toss everything together until well combined.
  7. Continue to stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the noodles are heated through and well-coated with the sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chow Mein!
