- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup cabbage, shredded
- 150g (5 oz) bean sprouts
- 200g (7 oz) protein of your choice (chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu), thinly sliced or diced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Green onions, chopped, for garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large wok or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the julienned carrot, sliced bell pepper, shredded cabbage, and bean sprouts to the wok. Stir-fry for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Push the vegetables to the side of the wok and add the protein of your choice to the empty space. Cook until the protein is cooked through.
- Combine the cooked noodles with the vegetables and protein in the wok.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Pour the sauce over the noodles and toss everything together until well combined.
- Continue to stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the noodles are heated through and well-coated with the sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chow Mein!
