Grilled Chicken Satay with Creamy Peanut Sauce

  • 1 lb. boneless chicken breast, sliced into thin strips

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes


  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ginger, garlic, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and salt.
  2. Add the chicken to the bowl and toss to coat with the spice mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, peanut butter, coconut milk, and lime juice.
  4. Pour the sauce over the chicken and toss to coat.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  7. Thread the chicken onto the bamboo skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
  8. Grill the skewers for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
  9. Serve hot with additional sauce on the side.

Satay has become increasingly popular in many parts of the world and is now commonly found in restaurants and at food stalls in many cities.

It has even been adapted to include vegetarian options, such as tofu or vegetables skewered and grilled in the same manner.
